What She’s Having is energetic, engaging television that does not fit neatly into any current scripted television
genre. It is hardly a sitcom, given its dramatic themes. It is hardly a drama, given its heavy dose of comedy. But What
She’s Having follows two appealing and recognizable characters through honest situations that scripted television has avoided
in the past. It addresses issues and themes that are in play in the national culture but have no voice in the current
television landscape.

What
She’s Having very
closely mirrors the experience of many women in America today, both single and married. Stephanie and Barbara, are in very different places
in their lives, having taken different paths. Stephanie is married and has traded her career as a District Attorney
for two young children and a life of family responsibilities. Barbara is a successful
magazine editor and single, partly by choice and partly from a lack of men who meet her ever-rising standards. Through them,
we look at today’s women and the lives they build through the choices they make.
At its core, it is a show about a female friendship with all the complexity, inexplicability, tension and support such
a friendship entails. What
She’s Having,
like life, takes unexpected turns. Like life, issues and relationships remain unresolved. Like life, it is nothing
like reality television. This show has a unique story-telling structure; it’s
a female-driven, single-camera half-hour that is neither a flat-out comedy nor a full-blown drama. It’s risky.
And, there are poop jokes.
